Conor McGregor has begun his recovery after undergoing successful surgery to repair the knee injury that forced the end of his comeback fight against Max Holloway at UFC 329, with the former two-division UFC champion providing a positive update on Wednesday.

McGregor suffered a torn ACL during the opening minute of his rematch with Holloway when he landed awkwardly after throwing a jumping roundhouse kick. The injury brought the contest to an end after just 66 seconds, 13 years after he defeated the Hawaiian earlier in his career.

“Surgery went excellent! I am confident!” said McGregor, per his Instagram account.

McGregor’s latest injury is expected to require a recovery period before he could potentially compete again. The 37-year-old previously underwent ACL surgery after suffering a similar injury during his first fight against Holloway in 2013, although on that occasion he was able to finish the bout and earn a unanimous decision victory before having surgery.

The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion has already stated his intention to return within a year and is targeting International Fight Week 2027 for his comeback. McGregor has one fight remaining on his current UFC contract and has previously indicated he intends to fulfil that commitment before considering opportunities outside the promotion.

The latest setback came in McGregor’s first fight after a five-year layoff, with the injury occurring in the opposite knee to the one he injured against Holloway in 2013.
