Conor McGregor will return to action at next year’s historic White House card, according to the Dubliner’s Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) co-owner David Feldman.
McGregor has been absent from the cage since he sustained a severe leg injury in his most recent bout in the cage in 2021 and saw his scheduled comeback fight last year opposite fellow ‘TUF’ coach Michael Chandler postponed after he suffered a foot injury during his preparation.
But with McGregor saying during an appearance on ‘Fox & Friends’ last weekend that he was a lock for the card in Washington D.C. next summer, which is to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Feldman said his business partner is extremely motivated to compete.
“I think that he’s very serious about what he’s doing with his comeback fight,” Feldman told MMA Fighting. “He’s going to do that fight. Unless something really crazy off the wall happens.”
“This truly is the best Conor McGregor I’ve seen,” he added. “Now I haven’t known him forever but I’ve known him for two years and this is the best Conor I’ve ever seen. Focused. Training. We’ve had some conversations me and Conor and I just said, you’re the biggest legend that ever hit the fight game almost, just let’s get back in there and training.
“He’s doing everything that I think a fighter should do at this point. He’s got a long time to go before that July 4 card next year. If he can maintain his focus, which I have no reason to believe he won’t and maintain his focus on training and everything, he’s got shot of being the old Conor McGregor.”
And according to Feldman, this would likely increase the chances of McGregor trying his hand(s) in the BKFC ring.
“If he wins, if he looks good in that fight, he’s going to fight another fight. If that happens, then I would bet 100 percent he’ll fight for BKFC. Why wouldn’t he? What would he do for the evaluation of the company if he fights for BKFC? He’ll double or triple it and then he just doubled or tripled his interest in it and that’s way more than he’s going to get fighting anywhere else.
“But he has business to take care of first and I do have to say honestly again, super, super focused. The most focused I’ve ever seen.”
Speaking on the aforementioned Fox & Friends show last week, McGregor confirmed his interest in rehashing his rivalry with Chandler.
“The Mac is excited to get back for sure. I’m on [the White House card],” McGregor said. “This is me.
“[I’m fighting] Michael Chandler. Michael Chandler and myself have done the show ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, we’ve had a good back and forth. He’s a good, tough guy.”
