Ian Machado Garry has responded to Michael Morales after the undefeated welterweight included the Irishman among several potential opponents for his UFC return, claiming that a date for a fight between the pair has already been offered.
Morales, who is 7-0 in the UFC, released a video on Sunday addressing the leading names at 170 pounds, including champion Islam Makhachev, Carlos Prates and Shavkat Rakhmonov. The 27-year-old also had a brief message for Garry, who challenged Makhachev for the welterweight title at UFC 330 in August.
“Oh, I almost forgot about you,” said Morales, as noted by MMA Fighting. “F*ck you, Ian Garry.”
Garry responded on Monday and claimed that discussions over a fight between the pair have already taken place. “I’ve said YES. The date is locked in. Main event and you’re making excuses already,” Garry wrote. “UFC sent the date. I dm’d you myself. You make it all public but behind the scenes I’m getting a different message. The world knows I’m anyone anytime… How long has it been since he’s fought?”
Morales has not competed in 2026 and is coming off three consecutive first-round knockout victories over Sean Brady, Gilbert Burns and Neil Magny. He also called for a fight with Prates to determine the next title challenger and named the undefeated Rakhmonov as another option should his preferred matchups not materialise.
Garry, meanwhile, is seeking another opportunity at the welterweight title following his unanimous decision defeat to Makhachev at UFC 330. Morales successfully weighed in as the backup for that contest, and with both fighters targeting another step towards the championship, a potential meeting between the pair could have significant implications at 170 pounds.
