Nate Diaz says there needs to be a final chapter in one of the best MMA rivalries in history.

The California man and Conor McGregor have combined for two epic clashes in the cage, with Diaz winning their first battle in March 2016 by second round choke and McGregor triumphing in their five-round rematch several months later in Las Vegas.

Since then, both men have scored a range of achievements: McGregor becoming the first-ever simultaneous double champion just months after his second win over Diaz, and the Stockton native competed in the fist-ever fight for the symbolic ‘BMF’ title in a bout opposite Jorge Masvidal.

But now with both in the midst of extended absences from the cage, Diaz says the time is right to settle the score once and for all.

“If I could fight anybody right now, I would fight — with all due respect to them — if Conor McGregor came back. Shit, Conor McGregor,” Diaz said to the Out Cold podcast, as reported by MMA Fighting.

“There ain’t nobody else to fight, really, right now,” he added. “I would like for him to come back and impress everybody first. Not that he needs to, but it would be great to see him back. Everybody’s hating on him. I’d like to beat up somebody on top of the world, and I think he’s got the capability to do that.”

Elsewhere, Diaz said that there would be some other names that would interest him if a McGregor trilogy bout couldn’t be arranged, such as the new UFC lightweight champion.

“Then that little Ilia Topuria, he’s doing a really good job,” Diaz said. “He’s a little small for me, but those two are probably the best fights.”

And Diaz, who holds a 1-1 record in professional boxing following a loss to Jake Paul and win over Jorge Masvidal, is also aiming high if he is to put on the 10oz gloves one more time.

“And then on the boxing side, obviously Canelo or Crawford. I ain’t asking for nothing, but when I whoop someone’s ass, I’m gonna get them motherf*ckers, too. With all do respect. So that’s my plan.”
