Conor Benn has vowed to stop Ryan Garcia when he challenges the American for the WBC welterweight title in Las Vegas on September 12.

Benn will compete for a world championship for the first time in his professional career as he looks to follow in the footsteps of his father, Nigel Benn, who held the WBC super-middleweight title from 1992 to 1995. The Brit enters the bout after defeating Regis Prograis in April and says he is focused on taking Garcia’s championship despite the war of words between the pair.

“It’s all just noise,” said Benn, according to Sky Sports. “It doesn’t really concern me, doesn’t bother me. I’m just coming there to take his title off him. I plan on going in there and getting a stoppage, for sure. I’m just going to go in there and do what I do, which is plant one on his chin and try and put him to sleep.”

“I prepare diligently hard and always put the work in. I’ve taken it with both hands and I’m coming in there to cause havoc,” Benn added. “I like being the underdog. I think I perform at my best.”

Benn will attempt to secure the WBC title that his father previously held, although the 29-year-old insists his primary motivation is establishing himself among the leading fighters in the sport. “For me to get a world title shot, the prestigious WBC world title, the belt my dad won, it’s a blessing,” said Benn. “That’s not my driving factor. My driving factor is to do it for myself. It’s for me to prove that I’m one of the best in the world.”

Benn has also pointed to his previous high-profile bouts as preparation for the occasion, including his two-fight rivalry with Chris Eubank Jr at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. “I think every single one of my fights has led me to this moment,” said Benn. “It’s prepared me for the noise and the drama and the chaos. So come September 12, it’s nothing new, nothing different.”
