Boxer Jake Paul has been suspended indefinitely by the Florida Athletic Commission following his knockout loss to former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Miami, and will require medical clearance before being allowed to compete again.

The suspension follows Paul’s defeat at the Kaseya Center, where he suffered a fractured jaw that required surgery. The bout was part of a high-profile boxing event that drew significant attention due to the matchup between the YouTube-turned-boxer and the former world champion.

“I got four plates in my jaw but that’s part of the sport,” Paul said on the Impaulsive podcast, according to MMA Mania. “The healing process has been a little bit tough. I’m a little bit tired, it’s hard to sleep. I go onto the pillow and then my jaw twerks up to the left and I wake up. It’s all part of the sport and it was an amazing night and I learned a lot, gained a lot of experience and we’re moving onto more fights this year.”

His injury was one of several sustained during the event, with multiple fighters receiving medical suspensions ranging from 30 to 60 days.

Under the terms of the suspension, Paul must be cleared by medical professionals before returning to competition. An indefinite suspension does not specify a return date and is dependent on the severity of the injury and the fighter’s recovery progress.

The loss marked the first knockout defeat of Paul’s professional boxing career. The Florida Athletic Commission’s medical suspensions are standard practice following serious injuries and are intended to ensure fighter safety before athletes resume competition.
