Caroline Dubois would be the ideal final opponent for Katie Taylor, according to Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian, as speculation continues over Taylor’s farewell bout at Croke Park this summer.
Taylor has yet to confirm the opponent for what is expected to be the final fight of her career in Dublin, but Dubois has repeatedly expressed interest in facing the Irish boxing star following her recent victory over Terri Harper.
“We would love for that to happen. I think it makes all the sense in the world,” Bidarian said, according to Sky Sports News. “When I spoke about it a few weeks back in our debut show, I was speaking to the UK audience. I think the UK and Ireland would salivate over such a matchup.”
Bidarian also described the potential contest as a symbolic moment in women’s boxing. “I believe it is a global fight, but definitely for the UK, for that opportunity for the passing of the torch,” he said. “Tough fight for Caroline, Katie is a tremendous fighter, but I think it is the right swansong event for Taylor at Croke Park against Caroline Dubois.”
Dubois strengthened her position as a leading contender for the fight after defeating Harper by unanimous decision last month, adding the WBO lightweight title to her WBC belt. The unbeaten 25-year-old has also called for a future showdown with American rival Alycia Baumgardner as she continues her rise in the sport.
“We are actively discussing for her to come back in August,” Bidarian added. “There are multiple routes she can take. She’s been very clear about her desire to fight Alycia Baumgardner. We hope that happens at some point. There are other belts in the division for her to unify.”
Bidarian added that Dubois remains a central figure in the future plans of Most Valuable Promotions. “She’s obviously very young, and she’s continuing to improve, and we think she will definitely be one of the main faces of the entire sport over the next few years, and that’s why we’ve partnered with Sky,” he said.
